The ranunculus is known for its full heads and layered petals, and they fit into all palettes and themes because of the many color choices.

The Origin and Meaning of Ranunculus

Ranunculus flowers originally come from the regions of the Eastern Mediterranean and Southwest Asia – countries like Greece, Turkey and Iran. Over time the love for ranunculus made its way to Italy as well, in Italy the climate and soil was perfect to grow ranunculus, especially in the Italian Riviera. The growers started loving the flower and that’s how it became so popular, over time they developed cultivation techniques to better the flower’s qualities such as its range of colors, size and the fullness of its petals.

Today, Italy is known for its high-quality ranunculus flowers, with certain areas of the country, like the region around San Remo, being famous for their production of these stunning flowers. There is also a special meaning behind these flowers.

As Valentine's Day approaches, a bouquet of Ranunculus becomes especially meaningful.
