Chrysanthemums, often simply called "mums," are another favorite for weddings or events. They are in full bloom during fall, making them a perfect choice for autumn weddings. Their rich, warm hues perfectly complement the season's ambiance. The fullness of certain chrysanthemum varieties adds volume and texture to floral arrangements, allowing for fewer stems to create a rich, full look.
Once you receive a fresh batch of mums, cut the stems at a 45-degree angle. This increases the surface area for water absorption, ensuring the flowers stay hydrated. Use cool, fresh water mixed with floral preservative. Change the water every couple of days to keep the mums fresh and prevent bacterial growth. Keep the flowers in a cool environment. Avoid placing them near heat sources, direct sunlight, or drafts. A temperature of around 55°F (12°C) is ideal for storing them. Ethylene gas, produced by ripening fruits and some other flowers, can cause mums to age faster. Ensure they're stored away from such sources.
When you might use Chrysanthemums in a bouquet:
Seasonal Bouquets: Chrysanthemums peak in the fall, making them a prime choice for autumn-themed arrangements with their warm and earthy hues.
Mixed Arrangements: Given the variety of mums available, they can be easily paired with other flowers. Spider mums add drama, daisy mums bring cheerfulness, and cushion mums give volume.
For Texture and Volume: The fuller varieties of mums, like decorative or cushion mums, add volume to bouquets without the need for a lot of stems, making the arrangement look lush and full.
